“Ne, Nao,” I whispered, peeking up at her slightly.
“Nggghhhh,” she grunted, shifting a tiny bit before tightening her hold on me.
“Nao,” I tried again.
“Sleep.”
“I can’t. I’m not tired. Talk to me.”
“Sleep,” she stated again, this time a little more firmly.
I rested my head back on her shoulder, willing myself to be as tired as my girlfriend was. But I couldn’t. I was still very much wide awake. I tried to count sheep, which turned into cows at some point, and then bears, and lastly, binturongs.
Why was I thinking about binturongs? I’ve never even seen one in real life before. But now that I think about it, I want to. I wonder if it’s possible.
“Nao,” I nudged her.
“Mmrrrrr,” she responded.
“Take me to go see binturongs. I want to see them.”
“Sleeeeeeep,” she replied groggily. “Bin...things tomorrow.”
“Promise?”
“Mmrr.”
